  The Silver Wardens

Where the Knights in Silver are the elite soldiers, warriors and defenders of Silverymoon, the Silver Wardens are its scouts, guides, skirmishers and outriders. Though not so well known throughout the Realms as the Knights in Silver, the Silver Wardens are certainly well respected in Silverymoon and the Silver Marches. Indeed, though they do not bear the authority of the law anywhere but Silverymoon, Silver Wardens are likely to be obeyed as though they did in the rest of the Silver Marches.

The Silver Wardens are divided into four branches. Each branch is on duty for an entire season of the year, riding the wilds throughout the Silver Marches, spying on humanoid tribes and monsters, protecting foresters and travelers and occasionally accompanying patrols of the Knights in Silver. Each branch can be recognized by the trim on their deep blue tabards - Silverdawn Wardens, who ride the lands during the spring wear green edging, while Silversun Wardens wear their blue-with-gold-trim during the summer. The autumn sees the Silverleaf Wardens in their fiery red trim and the winter-going Silverfrost Wardens bear silvery-white edging.

During their "off-seasons," Silver Wardens are permitted to go about their normal goals, be it adventuring, service in a temple or grove, traveling, resting or simply continuing with their guardian duties on their own coin and time. For the most part, Silver Wardens are driven in their defense of Silverymoon and the peoples of the North.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Silver Warden is proficient with all simple and martial weapons, light armor, medium armor and shields. Note that armor check penalties for armor heavier than leather apply to the skills Balance, Climb, Escape Artist, Hide, Jump, Move Silently, Pick Pocket and Tumble. Also, Swim checks suffer a -1 penalty for every 5 pounds of armor and equipment carried.

Spells per Day: When a new silver warden level is gained, the character gains new spells per day as if he had also gained a level in ranger. He does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. This essentially means that he adds the level of silver warden to his levels of ranger, then determines spells per day and caster level accordingly.

Warden's Gear: The wardens have a collection of magical items regularly crafted for them by the churches of Lurue, Mielikki, Selune, Mystra and Sehanine Moonbow and by the Spellguard and other mages willing to assist the Silver Wardens. These items are potion of cure light wounds, potion of cure moderate wounds, potion of cure serious wounds, potion of hiding, potion of speak with animals, ring of warmth, ring of sustenance, ring of animal friendship, bag of holding (types 1-2), boots of elvenkind, boots of the winterlands, bracelet of friends, bracers of archery, glove of storing, or horseshoes of speed. Such items can be purchased at a 25% discount from the various wizards and temples of those deities, a price generally just enough to cover base and XP costs in gold.

Stipend: Each season of service, the Silver Warden is given a stipend of his character level x90 gp (level x 10 gp per tenday of service).

Blessing of the Five: As the silver warden advances in level, he gains special blessings from the patron goddesses of Silverymoon. Each goddess grants two special powers. The first of these can be used anywhere. The second is a place-power, which draws upon the powers in Silverymoon. As such, a silver warden must be within one day per level in silver warden from Silverymoon to use this second power. The silver warden may add his Wisdom bonus to his silver warden level for the purposes of using the power granted by his patron. For the purposes of this ability, one "day" from Silverymoon is about 20 miles. A silver warden must choose the powers granted by his patron first. Then, as he advances in level, he may choose others. The powers granted by the goddesses are as follows:

Lurue - The Silver Unicorn grants her Silver Wardens the ability to speak with animals a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). The use of this power includes unicorns. When near Silverymoon, she grants them the ability to use alicorn lance a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). Alicorn lance can be found in the New Spells section of Chapter 5 of Project: Silverymoon.

Mielikki - The Maiden of Rangers grants her Silver Wardens the ability to find the path a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). When near Silverymoon, she grants them the ability to use flame blade a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one).

Mystra - The Lady of Mysteries grants her Silver Wardens the ability to detect magic a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). When near Silverymoon, she grants them the ability to use dispel magic a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (mimimum of one).

Sehanine Moonbow - The elven Moon Maiden grants her Silver Wardens the ability to use clairvoyance a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). When near Silverymoon, she grants them the ability to use moonbow a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (mimimum of one). Moonbow can be found in the Spells chapter of Project: Silverymoon.

Selūne - The Silver Maiden grants her Silver Wardens the ability to use darkvision a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (minimum of one). When near Silverymoon, she grants them the ability to use moon blade a number of times per day equal to their Wisdom bonus (mimimum of one).

Guardian of Silverymoon: The silver warden may gain an additional +1 to his standard favored enemy bonuses if that enemy threatens Silverymoon or its folk. He also gains this bonus if that favored enemy is simply found within 20 miles of the city.

Warden's Feat: : The silver warden may add a Feat from the following list: Alertness, Blind-fight, Blooded (FRCS), Lay Clergy (Project: Silverymoon), Leadership, Scribe Scroll, Smooth Talk (FRCS), Survivor (FRCS) or Treetopper (FRCS)

Spellcasting Skill: The silver warden gains the ability to spontaneously cast spells from a single Domain by sacrificing a spell of equal or higher level. The silver warden does not gain the Domain special ability, however, and must choose his first Domain from those of his patron. His second Domain, gained at 8th level, must be chosen from among the goddesses who grant him their blessings already (as per Blessings of the Five, above).

Mantle of the Silver Guardian: At 10th level, the Silver Warden becomes the Silver Guardian, leader of the Silver Wardens and greatly blessed by the patron goddesses of Silverymoon. Only one person may be the silver guardian at any one time. He gains the following special abilities:

Summon the Silver Herd - On a moonlit night, the silver guardian is able to summon 1d6 + 4 unicorns to assist in his defense of the city. The silver herd can only be summoned if one of the temples of the city's goddesses, the ruler of Silverymoon or the city itself are in danger. This is usable once per night and the herd remains until slain or the sun rises.

Radiance of the Moon - The silver guardian can summon a faerie fire radiance that is silvery in hue a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Wisdom bonus.

Ladies' Aegis - The goddesses of Silverymoon grant the silver guardian protection. This protection may be activated as he finds the need for it and doing so is a free action. Once he has done so, that protection remains in effect until it is changed to another type of protection. The protection can be changed only once per day. When the defense is invoked, the silver guardian is surrounded in silvery motes of light that form the holy symbol of the goddess so protecting him. These defenses are: Negative Energy Protection (Lurue), Immunity to Poison (Mielikki), Spell Resistance 18 (Mystra), Immunity to Enchantment spells (Sehanine Moonbow) and Immunity to Lycanthropy (Selūne).
